At last count, there are approximately 150 Churches in Erie County serving the spiritual needs of our residents.  Some have large congregations, while others are quite small.  All of them, however; are very important to those who belong for their spiritual life and happiness.  To be fair, I opened the 1888 book about Erie and am writing about the first Church I set my eyes on, which happened to be St. Stanislaus Church.

 I haven’t written about a person lately and one name stuck out in the 1888 book because I have never met someone named Orange before.   So, what started as being intrigued with a name, I discovered many fascinating things about Erie resident Orange Noble.

November and December 1900:  Clara Petrat’s life was so different than Winifred Watson’s.  Clara did chores that Winifred’s servants and chefs would do: “made my bed”, “washing and dusting”, “set the table”, “wash the dishes”.  What day did Clara go to the butcher shop with Mama?

In the year 2020, we all take for granted something which sometimes freaks us out when we don’t have it.  Any guesses what that is?  That’s right – electricity!  In 1887, the Edison Electric Light and Power Company was organized in Erie providing the first electricity for the city.
